Stopover or connection?
A connection is a short change of aircraft on the way to your destination. A stopover is a deliberate, longer break. Both appear as legs on one itinerary, but only the connection on a single booking is treated as one journey under the regulation.
One booking, one journey
Where the legs are on one booking, a delay on the first leg that makes you miss the second is measured against your final arrival — and the compensation uses the total distance flown.
